Rotary is an international organisation of business and professional leaders united worldwide to provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help to build goodwill and peace in the world.

For the purposes of administration, Rotary clubs throughout the world are allocated into Rotary Districts.

The Rotary Club of Richmond was chartered in 1964 as part of District 9800 (a District in the state of Victoria).

District 9800 covers 70 clubs located both in the centre of Melbourne and out north into the country including Bendigo, Echuca-Moama and Werribee.

In Australia there are 23 districts in total, with 1178 clubs and some 42,000 members.
